Johnny C, THE houseowner

Age: 20s

AKA: Johnny, J, James

Likes: Cold weather, warm drinks, drawing, collecting trinkets

Dislikes: People who vape, people touching his hair, people who ask to buy his house

Bio:
Johnny's outwardly disposition is rather unassuming, but he as a person is very crass and angry, appearing soft spoken to seem polite and remain cordial in basic conversation, etc. He can be very impulsive and snappy towards others if misunderstood or if someone upsets him, often not wanting to take shit from anyone at the slightest. Whilst his personality tends to teeter on separate sides of a scale, most of the time J is very paranoid and depressed, often avoiding others if it means he can wallow in himself in solitude. He is naturally very violent and trigger happy, but prefers to carry out such brutality purely in imaginative scenarios, never really acting upon them.

While trying to sell their house located in a suburb, one of his relatives offers to let Johnny live in the house for the rest of the duration of his university degree. Johnny moves in during his second year. After numerous consecutive falling outs with other people and a breakup with Destroyer, Johnny is regularly tormented by trauma and various other stressors. An individual known as the Neighbour repeatedly knocks on his door at 7:30 AM every Tuesday, before Johnny leaves for class. The individual has the same request each time: they ask if they can purchase the house, to which Johnny declines each time, never disclosing that he isn't the actual owner of the house. this would follow a string of night terrors he would have almost every night.

One night while restarting the generator during a snowstorm, Johnny notices another room that has appeared across from the guest bedroom in the basement. The new room is completely filled with various construction supplies and a desk with a notebook containing aerial diagram of both floors of his house.

While Johnny is asleep he has a particularly disturbing nightmare which includes an endless amalgam of thorns and mouths (as depicted in some of his art) and visions of very expansive layouts of the house in the same notebook. Tormented, Johnny returns to the room, only to find the desk absent now with a door that leads to a dark void. Under the realisation that his dreams were indicative of blueprints to expand the lower half of his house in the void, despite having no skill in construction, Johnny begins to construct rooms within the void room. They are initially shabby and held together flimsily, the rooms would magically reinforce themselves overnight. As the rooms are being built, 3 individuals bring their existence into his knowledge; Self (the one who offers guidance on building rooms and confirms Johnny's suspicions), Scolex and Evie.

After constructing several rooms, Johnny stops entirely for about a week, which resumes the nightmares and the Neighbour visiting at the same day and time. It comes to the realization that the people involved in Johnny’s murder-dreams are actually turning up dead and happen to be tentants of the Neighbour. Johnny must continuously build rooms to circumvent it.

Design Notes:

  • Shadow can obscure either left or right (or both) eyes
  • Top button on dress shirt is unbuttoned. Shirt can be fully tucked in or uneven
  • Asian, it's not super depicted in my own art due to how cartoonish it is, but he has monolids.
